From Rookie To Racer
In Mid-2024, I embarked on an exhilarating path into the world of competitive driving with no prior experience. What started as a passion for cars quickly transformed into a pursuit of excellence on the track. With dedicated support and guidance from my team Umoja Racing, I’ve faced a series of challenging events, each one a stepping stone in my growth as a driver.
These are the stories of my early races, filled with moments of triumph, learning, and determination.

November 9-10 ’24 — Takeoff to the Finish
RX Round 3 / Kasarani
Competing in Betika Rallycross 3 this November marked the final race of my first year in motorsports—a year full of learning, challenges, and growth. I debuted the Subaru Impreza GF8, a car with its own history, having raced the previous season with Betika + Umoja Racing and helped the team secure 2nd place overall.
Closing out the year this way felt like a fitting way to reflect on how far I’ve come, both as a driver and as part of the team. It’s been an unforgettable season, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.
July 6-7 ’24 — 1st RX, 2 New Cars, 3rd Finish
Betika Rallycross Round 2 / Kasarani
The third event was a timed rallycross competition, pitting me against seasoned drivers. Day one went smoothly with the trusty GF8, where I pushed my limits and fine-tuned my skills.
However, the morning of day two threw an unexpected curveball: the GF8 broke down an hour before the start time.
With no time to spare, I had to adapt quickly and race with two unfamiliar cars, a Subaru Impreza GC8 and Mitsubishi Evolution 9. The pressure was intense, but I focused on applying everything I had learned so far. Each lap was a new test of my adaptability and determination. Despite the odds, I performed consistently, navigating the new vehicles with growing confidence.
By the end of the day, I had secured a 3rd place finish. This breakthrough showed my resilience and ability to overcome unforeseen challenges. The support of my team and the lessons from previous events were crucial in this achievement, marking a significant milestone in my motorsports journey.
June 15-16 ’24 — The Technical Test
Autocross Round 5 / Nanyuki
In my second event, I faced an unfamiliar and highly technical autocross track. Fashioned in a ranch near the foothills of Mt Kenya, it was twisty, dusty, hilly, and full of loose banks. The weather was hot too so I had to be cautious, pushing the GF8 while conserving it for my teammate who needed it for their laps. The plan was to balance aggression and care, and maintaining a consistent pace while handling the tricky sections.
Despite the challenge, I finished the race, and my lap times showed steady improvement. Even if it didn’t end in a podium finish, this event taught me the importance of adaptability and precision, crucial skills in motorsports.

May 18 ’24 — The First Challenge
Autocross Round 4 / Kasarani
Two months ago, I took on my first-ever autocross race with a Subaru GF8, a car I had just relearned manual driving with. The 2.1km track was a mix of dry and muddy with pools in between, making it both challenging and unpredictable. The adrenaline was high as I navigated the slippery turns and straightaways. Finishing the race, despite the conditions, was an accomplishment that fueled my determination to improve. My teammates’ encouragement and tips were invaluable, setting the foundation for my journey ahead.
It felt great to bring the car back home intact after the race.
